Popularity of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and UFC

The popularity of MMA is increasingly overwhelming. The PPV numbers are the best they’ve ever been. They are slowly turning what was a “cult” following into a genuine crowd who are appreciative of what Mixed Martial Artists are capable of. UFC is getting plenty of television time with likes of The Ultimate Fighter, fights re-runs, or the ocassional highlights on ESPN’s Sports Center.

MMA style training is not just limited to those with extensive wrestling, BJJ, or boxing backgrounds. The doors of to train MMA are open to everyone; including World-Class Athlete Shaquille O’Neal, who has been training MMA for more than 10 years. Even a professional athlete of another sport recognizes the depth and dedication needed to learn, practice, and master MMA. Former Baseball player Jose Canseco got his 1st clash of MMA a couple months ago when he fought 7 ft. 2 inches Korean kickboxer and former ssireum wrestler, who currently competes in K-1, Hong Man Choi. Canseco lasted 1 minute 15 seconds.

UFC has exploded into mainstream U.S. television. What was once thought to be too brutal for mainstream television has now broken through the mainsteam barrier and there is no stopping the MMA. Plenty of households in Miami and Davie are having UFC fight parties, FFA are one of those pioneers leading the way. For every UFC pay-per-view event there is, there is also a UFC watch party going on at FFA Miami. What better way to watch a UFC event than with actual fighters and those who share the same passion of MMA like yourself. Along with food and drinks, what more can you ask for?

Miami jumped behind the UFC scene quickly once they heard about Florida Native, “Youtube Sensation” Kimbo Slice was training to be a Mixed Martial Artist at Freestyle Fighting Academy Miami.
